Miss World 2011 Review: Philippines - Sierra Leone

The Miss World Organization is celebrating its 60th anniversary in London, England where it all started back in 1951. 113 girls from around the world are competing for the honor and life-changing opportunity of becoming the 61st Miss World. This year the Miss World Organization decided to be the sole supplier of updates, photos, and videos for their pageant. It made it quite hard to follow the pageant, or even get excited about this special anniversary. As the days went on, the updates increased. Finally, Miss World fever is kicking in. Who will be the 61st Miss World and wear that blue crown until July 2012?!

****** POTENTIAL MISS WORLD
***** POTENTIAL TOP 5 FINALIST
**** POTENTIAL TOP 15 FINALIST
*** POTENTIAL TOP 30 FINALIST
** UNLIKELY TO PLACE
* HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO PLACE

PHILIPPINES: GWENDOLINE RUIAS ****
I am pretty sure we will see Gwendoline up there tonight. She is tall, elegant, and statuesque so a top 15 placement is within her reach. She was very well-spoken in her interview which will definitely help her.

POLAND: ANGELIKA OGRYZEK **
She looks more like a model than a beauty queen. I don't think she will place.

PORTUGAL: BARBARA FRANCO ***
Barbara is girlishly pretty and the Miss World judges might appreciate that. She was very sincere and sweet in her interview.

PUERTO RICO: AMANDA VILANOVA ******
Amanda is one of the huge favorites for the crown. It is very clear that the Miss World Organization loves her. She is beautiful, has a great body, and she has that special Miss World aura. She was very spontaneous and bubbly during her interview. I will not be surprised to see her being named the 61st Miss World.

ROMANIA: ALEXANDRA STANESCU **
Alexandra is pretty but I don't think it will be enough.

RUSSIA: NATALIA GANTIMUROVA ***
To be honest, I expected more from Natalia. She looked way better at Miss Universe. She didn't really catch my attention her. A top 30 placement could still be within reach though and she might even go further as she has a Miss World look.

ST BARTHELEMY: JOHANNA SANSANO ***

Johanna was a great first representative for her beautiful island. People took notice of her and that is an achievement in itself. I fear her looks might be too exotic for the Miss World Pageant though.

Miss Seychelles will be back next year, and the unveiling of the pageant’s logo and banner took place last Saturday, September 24, at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort&Casino during the prestigious Seychelles Ball, in front of former Seychelles President James Mancham, Vice President Danny Faure, ministers, government officials, individuals from the private sector, members of the Seychelles Tourism and Hospitality Association, partners from the tourism trade, and friends of the tourism industry.
The launching of the banner was an opportune moment for Jimmy Butt, Seychelles’ Tourism Ambassador based in Lusaka, Zambia, to sponsor SCR20,000 and stimulate the launch of the fundraising campaign for the event. Mr. St.Ange also announced that the Seychelles Tourism Board will now have the full responsibilities of hosting and organizing the beauty contest.
Speaking at the Seychelles Ball, Mr. St.Ange said that the Seychelles Tourism Board will be taking the beauty pageant to another level next year.
“The beauty pageant is meant to bring to the fore, the country’s finest talents. The forthcoming beauty pageant, now named ‘Miss Seychelles from Another World,’ is planned for July 2012 and is envisaged to attract beauty talents from all corners of the Seychelles Creole islands. It would be recalled that the last Miss Seychelles competition was held in 2008, and since then, it has been dormant, prompting the Seychelles Tourism Board to bring back this much widely-anticipated beauty contest. In the past, the winning beauty queen participated in the Miss World Contest as part of her winning package; now the winner will also take part in the Miss Southern African International, in addition to Miss World” he said.
The CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board said that the winner of the Miss Seychelles Another World contest will serve as ambassador for the islands. He noted that it will be a unique opportunity for Seychelles to have its own beauty queen at some of the major international tourism trade fairs, with the aim of promoting the islands’ profile and in so doing help increase the visibility of Seychelles.
It must be noted that the Miss Seychelles banner has been designed by the Seychelles Tourism Board’s own creative graphic designer, Miss Eileen Hoareau, and the logo designed by David Savy and Gilbert Pool.

MISS SEYCHELLES INTERNATIONAL 2012 CONTESTANTS

After 4 year’s absence from the Seychelles’ events calendar, the Seychelles Tourism Board is proud to be re-launching the event as the Miss Seychelles... another world Beauty Pageant with the aim of showcasing the great variety of feminine elegance and beauty to be found among our islands.
We hope to re-craft and redefine this event entirely and will be working hard to raise its profile to become one of the most anticipated events on the calendar - one that combines elegance, flair and sophistication to provide an attractive backdrop for the selection of our local beauty queen.
The Miss Seychelles... another world Beauty Pageant also ushers in a new era of involvement for the winner of the competition, opening the door of opportunity in the form of travelling abroad to represent Seychelles not only in the Miss World pageant but also at trade fairs and other international events as an ambassadress and spokesperson for our islands - their culture, spectacular natural beauty and national identity.
The National Contest is conducted by agreement with Miss World Limited, the owners and organisers of the Miss World Contest to elect "Miss World".
The National Contest is also an official preliminary contest to select a representative to participate in the Miss World Contest.

The Seychelles islands have announced that they are bringing back the Miss Seychelles beauty pageant next year. This will open the door for them to partner with the annual Miss Southern African International and the Miss World Pageant.
Miss Seychelles will return on the country’s events calendar after being dormant for a couple of years and is now expected to make a dashing comeback in July 2012.
It is the Seychelles Tourism Board that will now host and organize the pageant, which was once a popular event in Seychelles and in which many young ladies looked forward to participating. It had been automatic that the winning beauty queen participates in the Miss World Contest as part of her winning package, but the Seychelles Tourism Board has said that they are taking the international participation a few steps forward.
Now, the islands' winner will also take part in the Miss Southern African International, as well as become the face of the country at some of the tourism trade fairs overseas.
The Miss Southern African International’s organizers themselves approached Seychelles earlier this year to support and send its representative to the inaugural edition contest, which was held in Zambia on July 3. Since Seychelles did not have a reigning princess, it chose to rather support the pageant by sponsoring a prize for the winner which was a one-week stay in the Seychelles, with accommodation at a Le Meridien hotel.
The winner was Miss Tanzania, Nelly Kamwelu, followed by Paulina Malulu of Namibi as 1st runner up and Percivia Chimfwembe of Zambia as 2nd runner up. Other participants of the inaugural Miss Southern African International came from Lesotho, Congo, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.
The pageant is very much geared towards charity and raising awareness on the plight of the less fortunate, and the new Miss Southern African International has become the ambassador for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Network Zambia. She was presented with her special pink sash on the night of her crowning by a cancer survivor.

The Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Alain St.Ange, has said that it is important for Seychelles to get its own Beauty Queen, because it would help to raise the islands' profile and in so doing help increase the visibility of Seychelles.
“We definitely need a face to represent our beautiful country at such international contests. It is also nice when we will be able to join the list of tourism destinations coming to tourism trade fairs with their winning contestants and in so doing increase visibility of our country. We have many intelligent and pretty young ladies, we need to open new doors for them as they will help us in our mission of promoting our country,” Alain St.Ange said.
